All program staff should have access to staff development or inservice opportunities each year. Coordinators can request access to school district staff development funds and/or plan for annual staff development in their ECFE budgets. MNAFEE early childhood regional inservices, the state early childhood administrators’ conference each spring, other local and state conferences offered by groups such as the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children (MnAEYC) and the Minnesota Council on Family Relations (MCFR), and school district staff development opportunities are excellent sources of ECFE staff development. On a local level, coordinators may plan staff development based on unique staff needs or program enhancement efforts. Special attention can be directed to topics such as health and safety issues, team teaching challenges, cultural competency, and integrating parent and child curriculum. In addition, coordinators can encourage staff members to make site visits to ECFE programs in other school districts. This is an excellent way to gain fresh perspectives on working with families and children.
